The Concrete Pouring Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

Published on August 15, 2025

Ever wondered what it takes to pour the perfect concrete slab? It's a mix of science, art, and a whole lot of hard work. Here's a step-by-step guide to how we do it at The Concrete Man:

  1. Site Preparation: We start by excavating the area to the required depth, ensuring proper drainage and a stable base. We then lay down a sub-base of gravel and compact it to create a solid foundation.
  2. Formwork: We build a temporary frame, or formwork, around the perimeter of the area to be poured. This holds the concrete in place and gives it its shape.
  3. Reinforcement: To add strength and prevent cracking, we place a grid of steel reinforcing bars (rebar) or wire mesh within the formwork.
  4. Pouring: The concrete is delivered to the site and poured into the formwork. We work quickly to spread the concrete evenly and ensure there are no air pockets.
  5. Screeding: We use a long, straight board called a screed to level the surface of the concrete.
  6. Floating and Troweling: Once the concrete has started to set, we use a float to further smooth the surface and then a trowel to create a dense, hard finish.
  7. Curing: The concrete needs to cure for several days to reach its full strength. We cover the surface with a curing compound or wet burlap to ensure it cures evenly.

And that's it! The result is a beautiful, durable concrete surface that will last for years to come. If you have any questions about our process, don't hesitate to contact us.
